Helping Seniors Who Need a Change in their Living Situation
As the number of people entering their 80s and 90s increases, there also can be seen an increasing number of seniors who need extra services when it comes to making a lifestyle change. Often that change is one where the senior must find ways to simplify their life. This may mean a move to an assisted living facility where meals are prepared, maids clean the living area, and more people with common interests and experiences can be found for social opportunities. If driving priveleges are lost, moving to assisted living can also mean better transportation and fun outings with friends.
Another type of transition may be where the senior must sell their home and move in with family who live in another state.
As a Realtor experienced in helping seniors sell their homes, I have seen a segment of seniors whos families have moved to distant locations. They needed a lot of help with the entire process but it was not convenient or possible for their far-off family to help. A senior in this situation needs someone whom he or she can trust. Families of those seniors need to know that their parent is being treated with honesty and compassion and that the family is kept in the loop.
The Senior Move Assist program works with clear-minded seniors who are ready to make the change while they still have choices. It involves help in locating a local assisted living facility, including tours and visits, and organizing the necessary services that will be needed to sell the home and to move to the new residence. It involves helping the client to get their house prepared for sale, working with them to edit down their possessions so they can make their move to a smaller living space.
